Ab Dilli Dur Nahin (1957) is a Hindi social drama directed by Amar Kumar and produced by Raj Kapoor under the R.K. Films banner. The story and screenplay were written by Akhtar Mirza, with dialogues by Rajinder Singh Bedi and Muhafiz Hyder. The supporting cast features Sulochana Latkar as Ratan’s mother Bela, Anwar Hussain as Mukundlal, Jagdeep as Maseeta, and a young Amjad Khan in a minor role as Lachhu.
The film centers around Ratan (played by Master Romi), a young boy whose father, Hariram (Motilal), is wrongly accused of murder and sentenced to death. Determined to save his father, Ratan sets out on a brave journey to Delhi with the hope of meeting Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and seeking justice. Along his way, he faces numerous challenges but also finds support in unlikely allies, including Ghasita (played by Yakub), a kind-hearted pickpocket who becomes his companion.
The film's music, composed by Dattaram Wadkar, includes lyrics by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. Memorable songs such as “Chun Chun Karti Aayi Chidiya” by Mohammed Rafi, “Mata O Mata Jo Tu Aaj Hoti” by Sudha Malhotra, and “Yeh Chaman Hamara Apna Hai” by Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt added emotional depth to the story.
