Aladdin Aur Jadui Chirag (1952) is a Hindi-language fantasy adventure film directed and produced by Homi Wadia under the banner of Basant Pictures. It stars Mahipal in the role of Aladdin and Meena Kumari as Princess Badar, with supporting performances by S. N. Tripathi, B. M. Vyas, Jillo Bai, and Vasantrao Pahelwan. The film is renowned for its elaborate special effects, a hallmark of Wadia’s fantasy films, executed by legendary effects artist Babubhai Mistry.
The story follows Aladdin, a kind and brave young man who stumbles upon a magical lamp housing a powerful genie. When Aladdin falls in love with Princess Badar, he must contend with the wicked sorcerer Hikmat (played by S. N. Tripathi), who seeks the lamp's power for his own evil purposes. To save the princess and protect the kingdom, Aladdin embarks on a perilous adventure filled with magic, danger, and wonder. Along the way, he battles supernatural creatures, outwits villains, and proves his courage, ultimately defeating the sorcerer and restoring peace.
The music of the film was composed by S. N. Tripathi and Chitragupta, with lyrics by Pandit Chand, Ramesh Chandra Pandey, Shyam Hindi, and Anjum Jaipuri. The soundtrack features performances by legendary playback singers such as Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Shamshad Begum, and Asha Bhosle. Memorable songs include “Jurm Duniya Ke Sahe”, “Hey Taadir Hoon Irani”, and “Insaaf Kar O Aasman”, all of which contribute to the magical atmosphere of the film.
