This poster published by Bata Shoe Co. Ltd., features two waterproof black glossy loafer-style shoes, highlighting their ability to withstand wet weather. A rain-drenched background with a person in a red coat and umbrella emphasizes the shoes' waterproof feature. Founded in 1894 as the T & A Bata Shoe Company in Czechoslovakia, Bata pioneered steam-driven shoe-making machinery. In the 1920s, it expanded to India, establishing its first production unit in 1932 near Calcutta. BATA India Ltd. operated under a business structure where lower-priced shoes were sold under BSC to benefit from tax exemptions or reduced duties applicable to "small-scale industries." Whereas the higher end shoes were sold under BATA brand.
