More Info

This vibrant lithograph by the Ravi Varma Press depicts the ascension (Samadhi) of 17th-century poet-saint Tukaram Maharaj, a key figure of the Bhakti movement in Maharashtra. Seated on a divine palanquin borne by celestial beings, Tukaram rises heavenward as heavenly figures shower flowers and play instruments in reverence. Below, a crowd of devoted followers—men, women, and children—express deep emotion through music, dance, prayer, and tears, creating a scene of devotional ecstasy. The setting, rich with natural and temple-like elements, evokes a rural spiritual gathering imbued with reverence and celebration.
