This lithograph, titled "Burk-e-Albani," published by Anant Shivaji Desai, beautifully portrays Burak, the legendary steed from Islamic tradition, soaring majestically through the sky. The backdrop features a grand mosque on the bank of a river, with lotus flowers floating on the water. In the distance, towering mountains rise beneath a sky where the partially veiled sun casts a divine glow through drifting clouds.
According to Islamic tradition, Burak was a winged celestial horse with the face of a woman, chosen as the divine mount of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). She carried the Prophet on his miraculous Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj) from Mecca to Jerusalem, then ascended to the heavens, before safely returning him to Earth in a single night.
