More Info
This lithograph, titled "Chandra Shrap," published by Anant Shivaji Desai, depicts Chandra (the Moon God) seated on the crescent moon, accompanied by his most beloved wife, Rohini. Below them, his other wives stand with solemn expressions, while Prajapati Daksha, their father, stands in front of Chandra, confronting him.
According to Hindu mythology, Chandra was married to 27 wives, all daughters of Prajapati Daksha. However, he showed special affection for Rohini, neglecting the others. This angered Daksha, who cursed Chandra with "Kshay", causing his body to deteriorate and his brightness to fade.
