The vintage poster advertises Coronation Beverages' "Cheerio" brand, featuring "GR-VI" enclosed within an oval shape adorned with a crown, symbolizing the coronation of King George VI in 1936. The brand was promoted as a refreshing drink to commemorate the royal celebration.
Founded by William Duckworth in 1885, the company rebranded as Duckworth & Co. in 1887 and relocated to the Old Trafford Essence Distillery in 1895, specializing in flavor essences for aerated beverages. In the 1930s, the company expanded into India, launching Coronation Cheerio in 1936, which soon became a popular soft drink of its time.
