Don (1978) is a Hindi-language action thriller directed by Chandra Barot, starring Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role as Don, a ruthless and powerful gangster, and his look-alike Vijay, a simple street performer. The film also features Zeenat Aman as Roma, Pran as Jasjit, Iftekhar as DSP D'Silva, Om Shivpuri as Vardhaan (disguised as R.K. Malik), and Satyen Kappu as Inspector Verma. The plot centers around Don, who runs a notorious criminal empire and successfully evades the police. After Don’s death during a police encounter, DSP D'Silva enlists Vijay, a man with a striking resemblance to Don, to infiltrate Don's gang and expose his operations. Vijay’s mission becomes increasingly complicated when D'Silva is murdered, and Vijay is forced to impersonate Don, all while dealing with the complexities of the underworld, including rival gangsters and law enforcement.

Though Don initially faced a lukewarm reception upon its release on May 12, 1978, it quickly gained immense popularity due to the iconic track "Khaike Paan Banaraswala" and its unique storyline. As Vijay navigates his role in Don’s criminal world, he faces challenges that test his moral limits and loyalty. The film's electrifying soundtrack, composed by Kalyanji-Anandji, features memorable songs like "Main Hoon Don" and "Yeh Mera Dil", which further cemented its legacy. The film’s success led to remakes in several languages and inspired a 2006 reboot starring Shah Rukh Khan. Don became a cult classic, known for its thrilling action, memorable music, and Bachchan’s iconic performance.
