More Info

This poster by K. Nixon, features two tigers depicted within a caged enclosure, with the heads of two elephants shown above. This likely represents the diverse wildlife found in the Sundarbans region. The background includes elements that suggest a jungle or forest environment, possibly symbolizing the animals' natural habitat. The Eastern Bengal Railway was founded in 1855 to construct railway tracks connecting Eastern Bengal with Burma (now Myanmar). The proposal was approved and included in the Indian Act of Parliament in August 1857. Construction began in October 1859, and by September 1862, the first train traveled from Sealdah, a locality in Kolkata, to Ranaghat.
