More Info

This poster, created by G. Mandal, for the Eastern Bengal Railway, featuring Umananda and promoting pilgrimage to the Kamakhya Temple in Assam, India. The poster depicts a tranquil river with a large tree on the left, boats floating on the water, and a temple atop a hill in the background. A group of people, dressed in traditional Indian attire, are seen walking along the riverbank, possibly pilgrims heading towards the temple. Established in 1855, the Eastern Bengal Railway was designed to connect Eastern Bengal with Burma (now Myanmar). Construction began in October 1859, and in September 1862, the first train ran from Sealdah (in Kolkata) to Ranaghat.
