More Info
This poster by John Sturgess promotes Elliman's Embrocation for horses. It features a prominent illustration of a jockey riding a chestnut horse in the foreground, with other jockeys and spectators in the background. The scene depicts a horse racing event, with a racetrack, trees, and a crowd of onlookers. The tagline "Royal for horses" highlights the embrocation's trusted effectiveness for horses, while "Universal for aches and pains" emphasizes its use for humans. The vibrant colors and imagery reflect the enduring reputation of the Elliman brand. Established in 1845 by James Elliman Sr. in Slough, Berkshire, England, Elliman, Sons, and Co. initially sold draperies before launching their first embrocation for animals in 1847 and for humans in 1850. By 1911, the company had expanded to 42 countries, including India, thriving under the leadership of his son, James Elliman Jr.
