More Info
This poster created by David Klein for Trans World Airlines (TWA), promotes travel to the Orient. The central focus is a bronze dancing statue reminiscent of a Hindu deity. Curtains and veils partially reveal scenes of landscapes with mountains and temples, hinting at the diverse and fascinating destinations awaiting travelers. An airplane soars across the top of the poster, symbolizing the modern convenience of air travel.
TWA (Trans World Airlines) was founded in 1930 following the merger of Transcontinental and Western Air Express. The airline gained prominence after aviator and tycoon Howard Hughes invested in TWA in 1934. His investment led to the purchase of a fleet of 18 international Boeing aircraft and 30 Convair 880s, helping the airline expand. Despite facing bankruptcy in 1960, TWA continued operating. In India, TWA served Bombay (now Mumbai) from January 8, 1947, to March 1975, marking its only route in the country.
