Hatim Tai (1956) is a Hindi fantasy adventure film directed by Homi Wadia and produced under the Basant Pictures banner. Renowned for its impressive special effects crafted by Babubhai Mistry, the film stars P. Jairaj as the virtuous Prince Hatim, alongside Shakila, Krishna Kumari, S. N. Tripathi, and B. M. Vyas.
The story follows Prince Hatim Tai, celebrated for his kindness and bravery. When he encounters Prince Munir, whose beloved Husn Bano is under a curse that will turn her to stone upon marriage, Hatim pledges to help. To lift the curse, he must solve seven mystical riddles, embarking on a daring journey filled with magical realms and daunting challenges. His quest leads him to battle giants, meet mermaids, and cross paths with Husna Pari, the twin sister of the fairy Gulnar Pari, who had originally cast the curse. As Hatim progresses through his mission, a heartfelt romance blossoms between him and Husna Pari, though their union is deferred until his task is complete. Ultimately, Hatim succeeds in answering all seven riddles, breaking the curse and reuniting the lovers. The film concludes with the joyful weddings of Munir and Husn Bano, as well as Hatim and Husna Pari.
The film’s captivating soundtrack, composed by S. N. Tripathi, includes timeless melodies such as “Parwardigaar-E-Alam” sung by Mohammed Rafi, enhancing the emotional and fantastical atmosphere of the story.
