William Smithson Broadhead
W. Smithson Broadhead (1888–1960) was a British-American equestrian artist based in England. He completed his art education at the Royal College of Arts in London. In 1911, he went to Canada and worked as an illustrator for the Lithograph Company. In 1934, his artworks were published in American magazines like Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and Good Housekeeping. He produced artwork as a poster for the Mackie & Company’s labelled scotch named ‘White Horse Cellar’.

Founded in 1801, Mackie & Company established the Lagavulin Distillery on Islay and introduced White Horse Whiskey in Edinburgh in 1861. In the 1920s, the company expanded to India, appointing Devereux & Co. Ltd. for the Bombay Presidency and eastern regions, Murray & Co. Ltd. for the northern provinces, and Spencer & Co. Ltd. for the Madras Presidency.
