More Info

This poster by E. V. Hove promotes the Holland British India Line, offering direct services between India, Burma, Ceylon, and European ports. The image features their steamship in the background, while the foreground depicts a royal procession in India, with decorated elephants carrying dignitaries, accompanied by camels and foot travelers. The vibrant colors and exotic imagery highlight the allure of Eastern travel in the early 20th century. The United Netherlands Navigation Company (VNS), founded on April 30, 1920, was a partnership of eight companies with a capital of 200 million. VNS operated routes from Holland to British India, reaching Calcutta via Karachi, Bombay, and Madras.
