More Info

The poster features Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India, alongside a slogan and the Jana Sangh’s symbol. Created for an election campaign, it represents the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS), a political party founded on October 21, 1951, by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, with key figures like Balraj Madhok and Deendayal Upadhyaya.

The BJS gained prominence in North India, securing a strong foothold in the 1967 elections. Its election symbol, the Diya (oil lamp), symbolized light, knowledge, and progress and was used until 1977, when the party merged with the Janata Party.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as BJS president from 1968 to 1972, leading the party’s expansion and advocating nationalism, economic self-reliance, and unity.
