Johny Mera Naam (1970) is a Hindi-language crime action film directed by Vijay Anand and produced by Gulshan Rai under the banner of Trimurti Films. The film stars Dev Anand in the titular role of Johny, with Hema Malini, Pran, Jeevan, Premnath, I.S. Johar, and Padma Khanna in key supporting roles.
The story follows two brothers, Mohan and Sohan, sons of a police inspector. After witnessing their father's murder at the hands of gangster Ranjit, Mohan seeks revenge but is presumed dead. Sohan grows up to become a CID officer under the alias Johny and infiltrates the criminal underworld to avenge his father and uncover the truth behind his brother's disappearance. Unbeknownst to Sohan, Mohan has survived and is now involved in Ranjit's criminal activities. The brothers' paths cross under false identities, leading to intense confrontations and eventual reconciliation.
The film's soundtrack, composed by the duo Kalyanji-Anandji with lyrics by Indeevar, includes popular tracks like "Babul Pyare," "Pal Bhar Ke Liye," and "Oh Mere Raja Khafa Na Hona." The song "Oh Mere Raja Khafa Na Hona" became a classic with its soulful melody and remains one of the memorable songs from the film. Additionally, I.S. Johar won the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian for his triple-role performance. "Johny Mera Naam" became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1970, marking its commercial success and solidifying its place in Indian cinema history.
