Kundan (1955) is a Hindi social drama directed and produced by Sohrab Modi under Minerva Movietone. The film stars Sohrab Modi in the lead role, alongside Sunil Dutt, Nimmi (in a dual role as Radha and Uma), Pran, Om Prakash, and Manorama. Ulhas portrays Inspector Sher Singh, a stern and unyielding jailor. The story follows Kundan, a poor man who steals bread for his starving family but is imprisoned for years. Upon his release, he finds his niece Radha abandoned by her husband and struggling to raise her daughter, Uma. Seeking redemption, Kundan turns to an honest life, guiding Uma as she matures and falls in love with Amrit, a freedom fighter. The film explores themes of sacrifice, redemption, and justice.

The music, composed by Ghulam Mohammed with lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni, features memorable songs like "Naujavano Bharat Ki Taqdir Bana Do" (Mohammed Rafi) and "Shikayat Kya Karun Donon Taraf Gam Kaa Fasana Hai" (Lata Mangeshkar). The film was praised for its emotional depth and powerful performances, with Ulhas receiving a Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Kundan remains a timeless classic of Hindi cinema.
