More Info
This lithograph by M.D. Trivedi features Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of India’s independence movement and a pioneer of Satyagraha (nonviolent resistance). Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Gandhi led key movements like the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920), Civil Disobedience Movement (1930) with the Dandi March, and the Quit India Movement (1942) against British rule.
A champion of ahimsa (non-violence) and self-reliance, he promoted khadi and fought against untouchability. His efforts led to India’s independence on August 15, 1947, but he was assassinated on January 30, 1948. Gandhi’s legacy continues to inspire peace and civil rights movements worldwide.
