Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978) is a classic Bollywood film directed and produced by Prakash Mehra, featuring an ensemble cast led by Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rakhee Gulzar, Rekha, and Amjad Khan. The film tells the tragic tale of Sikandar, an orphan who rises from poverty to wealth but remains tormented by his unfulfilled love for Kaamna, who instead loves his friend Vishal Anand. Despite his success, Sikandar's life is filled with sorrow, and he finds solace in the companionship of Zohra Bai, a courtesan who secretly loves him. His life takes a dramatic turn due to misunderstandings, betrayals, and conflicts with the villainous Dilawar, leading to a heart-wrenching climax.

The film's music, composed by Kalyanji-Anandji with lyrics by Anjaan and Prakash Mehra, became an instant hit. Songs like "O Saathi Re", "Rote Hue Aate Hain Sab", and "Salaam-e-Ishq Meri Jaan" remain evergreen classics. With its intense emotions, memorable performances, and soulful music, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar became one of the highest-grossing films of 1978 and cemented Amitabh Bachchan's status as the "angry young man" of Bollywood. The film’s tragic yet poetic storytelling continues to make it a cult classic, and it was later remade in Telugu as Prema Tarangalu (1980).
