Navrang (1959) is a classic Hindi film directed by V. Shantaram, starring Mahipal as Diwakar and Sandhya in dual roles as Jamuna and Mohini. The story follows Diwakar, a poet deeply in love with his wife Jamuna, who sees him as lost in fantasy. To cope, he imagines Mohini—his ideal muse who looks like Jamuna but represents his dream world. While this muse brings him creative success, it strains his real-life marriage. The situation worsens when Diwakar loses his job due to anti-British writings, leading the family into hardship.
The film is renowned for its rich color, artistic visuals, and memorable music by C. Ramchandra. Songs like "Aadha Hai Chandrama" and "Arre Ja Re Hat Natkhat" became classics. A major success, Navrang was the third highest-grossing Indian film of 1959.
