Razia Sultana is a 1961 Hindi-language historical drama directed by Devendra Goel. Nirupa Roy stars as Razia Sultan, with Paidi Jairaj portraying Malik Altunia. The supporting cast includes Nisar Ahmad Ansari, Agha, Leela Mishra, Madhumati, Lalita Pawar, M. Kumar, and Kamran Khan. The screenplay was written by K.B. Pathak and the film was produced by Chandrakant Chadda, with cinematography by S.R. Narsingham and editing by M.S. Shinde.

The film chronicles the life of Razia Sultan, the first and only female ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, who reigned from 1236 to 1240. A visionary leader ahead of her time, Razia challenged the gender norms of a rigidly patriarchal society, facing opposition from conservative nobles and internal conspiracies. The story explores her courageous ascent to power, her efforts to rule with fairness and merit, and her bond with Malik Altunia—a key relationship that adds emotional depth to her political struggle.

One of the film’s highlights is its music, composed by Lachhiram Tamar with lyrics by Anand Bakshi and vocals by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle. With its regal sets and strong performances, Razia Sultana remains a noteworthy tribute to India’s first female ruler.
