Sadhu Aur Shaitan (1968) is a Hindi-language comedy-drama directed by A. Bhimsingh and produced by A.V. Meiyappan under the AVM Productions banner. Starring Mehmood, Om Prakash, Bharti, Pran, and Kishore Kumar, the film is a remake of the Tamil movie Sabash Thambi (1967) and is celebrated for its engaging blend of comedy, crime, and action.
The story follows Bajrangi (Mehmood), a kind-hearted but naïve taxi driver, who unknowingly becomes involved in a criminal plot. He is deceived by Kishanlal (Pran), a clever bank robber, who hires his taxi to carry out a heist. Unaware of the crime, Bajrangi soon finds himself a prime suspect as the police launch an investigation. His friend Sadhu (Om Prakash), a bank employee, also gets caught up in the chaos. As events unfold, a thrilling yet humorous chase ensues to capture the true culprit and prove Bajrangi’s innocence.
The film’s soundtrack, composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, features iconic songs performed by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Manna Dey. One of the most memorable tracks, "Babu Samjho Ishare," showcases a lively performance by Mehmood and Kishore Kumar, adding to the film’s charm.
