More Info

This lithograph, titled "Sangaldeep Ki Rani" published by Hemchander Bhargava, portrays a queen reclining gracefully on a luxurious couch in her royal courtyard. She holds a delicate chaur (whisk fan) in her hand, her partially draped attire adding to the elegance of the scene. The backdrop features an ornate fountain, lush trees, and a grand staircase leading to the palace, enhancing the regal ambiance of the setting.

Rani Padmavati (13th–14th century) was the Queen of Mewar and the wife of King Ratan Singh. Originally a princess from the Sinhalese Kingdom, she became renowned for her beauty and valor. When Alauddin Khilji attacked and conquered Chittorgarh, rather than surrendering to captivity, she, along with countless Rajput women, performed Jauhar—a self-immolation ritual—to uphold their honor. This act of defiance and sacrifice remains a powerful symbol of Rajput pride and resilience.
