More Info

Shaadi (1962) is a Hindi-language drama directed by Krishnan–Panju, starring Dharmendra, Manoj Kumar, Saira Banu, Balraj Sahni, and Indrani Mukherjee. The story follows Ratan Malhotra (Balraj Sahni), who sacrifices everything to educate his younger brother Ramesh (Dharmendra). Ramesh marries Kala (Indrani Mukherjee), the daughter of a judge, while Ratan arranges his sister Gauri’s (Saira Banu) wedding with Raja (Manoj Kumar), the son of a wealthy but greedy businessman Seth Daulatram (Om Prakash). However, when Ramesh suffers amnesia after a plane crash while delivering Gauri’s dowry, Daulatram cancels the wedding, leading to turmoil in the family.

Meanwhile, Gauri meets Raja in Bombay without him realizing she was once his intended bride. As Raja pursues a career in acting, Ratan and his wife Shanti (Sulochana Latkar) search for Gauri but face hostility from Kala, who blames them for Ramesh’s condition. Eventually, Ramesh regains his memory, Raja becomes successful, and Daulatram realizes the value of relationships, leading to a happy reunion. The film’s music, composed by Chitragupt with lyrics by Rajendra Krishan, features hit songs by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi, making Shaadi a memorable film for its emotional depth and melodious soundtrack.
