The lithograph by the Raja Ravi Varma Press illustrates a pivotal moment in the legend, where the Tridevi—Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Parvati—approach Anasuya with humility, pleading for the restoration of their husbands. Touched by their repentance, Anasuya consents, and the infant forms of the Trimurti—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—unite to become her son, Dattatreya, a divine embodiment of all three gods.
Earlier in the tale, the Tridevi, envious of Anasuya’s renowned chastity, persuade their consorts to test her virtue. Disguised as wandering sages, the Trimurti ask Anasuya to serve them food without clothing. Undeterred, she uses her spiritual power to transform them into innocent infants, thereby upholding her modesty while honoring their request.
