The poster promotes "Sitara Devi Night", held at Merchant Chamber Hall, Kanpur, on 15 July 1973 at 7 p.m., featuring legendary Kathak dancer Sitara Devi (1920–2014), her daughter Surmani Jayanti, and tabla maestro Pandit Kishan Maharaj, who would perform in live concert. Sitara Devi, hailed by Rabindranath Tagore as “Nritya Samragini,” gained global acclaim for her powerful performances and received honors including the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
Her daughter, Surmani Jayanti, a skilled Kathak dancer and choreographer, often performed alongside her mother, contributing significantly to preserving the classical tradition. Pandit Kishan Maharaj (1923–2008), a tabla virtuoso of the Benares Gharana, was renowned for his intricate rhythms and collaborations with legends like Ravi Shankar and Bhimsen Joshi. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1973 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2002.
