Kondiah Raju was born in 1898 in Madras. In 1916, he joined the Government College of Arts and Crafts. He designed backdrops for the “Palaniappa Pillai” drama in 1940. He opened an art studio named Devi Electrical Studio and Ambal Arts. Many talented artists were trained under him, including T.S. Subbiah, Ramalingam, T.S. Arunachalam (the younger brother of T.S. Subbiah), M. Srinivasan, and S. Shenbagarama.
