The poster portrays the Bhagwat Puranas story of Krishna and Sudama. Krishna, in regal attire, warmly greets Sudama, clad in simple white garments, symbolising friendship and generosity. The royal court is richly decorated with pillars, golden lion-figured steps, and peacocks that enhance the grandeur of the scene. Rukmini is seated on a throne with attendants around, and the company's packaging label appears at the upper right corner. The advertisement of Sunlight Soap is super imposed on the main print.
Lever Brothers arrived in Kolkata in 1888, launching Sunlight Detergent Soap, embossed with “Made in England,” marking the beginning of branded FMCG in India. Their operations grew with the establishment of Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Company in 1931, Lever Brothers Ltd. in 1933, and United Traders Ltd. in 1935. These entities merged in 1956 to form Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL).
