More Info
This poster by Manfred Bingler features a close-up view of a white statue of Nandi, adorned with a garland. Nandi, the sacred bull in Hinduism, is the mount of the god Shiva. The words "India" and "Swiss Air" are prominently displayed, promoting travel to India via the airline. Swiss Air, established on March 26, 1931, through the merger of Basler Luftverkehr and Ad Astra Aero, initially operated routes within Switzerland, Germany, and France. In 1932, the airline introduced the Lockheed Orion monoplane for express services. After halting operations during World War II, Swiss Air resumed transatlantic flights to New York in 1946 and expanded its network to South America and East Asia in the 1950s, including Tokyo in 1961. Swissair started flying to India in 1957 with intermediate stops in Karachi and Bombay.
