Trans World Airlines (TWA) was founded in 1930 through the merger of Transcontinental Air Transport and Western Air Express. In 1934, aviator and entrepreneur Howard Hughes invested in the airline, later expanding its fleet with 18 Boeing aircraft and 30 Convair 880s. Despite its success, financial struggles led to bankruptcy in 1960. TWA started flying to Bombay (now Mumbai) from January 8th, 1947.
