More Info

Tarana (1951) is a Hindi romantic drama directed by Ram Daryani under the Krishin Movietone banner, featuring Dilip Kumar as Dr. Motilal and Madhubala as Tarana. This film marked their first on-screen pairing, with their remarkable chemistry adding to its success.

The story follows Dr. Motilal, who, after an emergency landing in a remote village, finds refuge with a blind man, Surdas, and his daughter, Tarana. As he treats an injured co-passenger, he and Tarana fall in love. However, their romance faces opposition from Totaram, a wealthy villager who desires Tarana and spreads false rumors to separate them. Misunderstandings lead to heartbreak, but after overcoming several obstacles, they reunite, proving the power of true love.

The film gained further attention due to the real-life romance between Dilip Kumar and Madhubala, which blossomed during its making. Anil Biswas composed its timeless soundtrack, with "Seene Mein Sulagte Hai Armaan" remaining a classic. Tarana was a critical and commercial success, ranking among the top-grossing films of the year and celebrating a silver jubilee.
