More Info
This calendar for The Burmah Oil Company promotes their "Finest Stearine and Paraffin Candles." At the center, a striking illustration of a lion symbolizes strength and power. The calendar highlights the company's achievements, including a Silver Medal from Paris in 1900 and a Gold Medal from Calcutta in 1884. The lower section notes that Finlay, Fleming & Co served as the managing agents for the company in Rangoon. Founded in 1886 in Scotland, Burmah Oil was one of the pioneers in South Asia's oil industry. In India, it played a key role in establishing an extensive distribution network. In the 1920s, Burmah Oil partnered with Royal Dutch Shell to create the Burmah-Shell Oil Storage and Distributing Company of India Limited, which focused on importing, storing, and distributing petroleum products throughout India. This joint venture, Burmah Shell, developed a vast infrastructure of distribution facilities, pipelines, storage tanks, and service stations across the country.
