More Info
This poster by David Klein, promotes travel to India with TWA (Trans World Airlines). The centerpiece of the image is a majestic white elephant, adorned with colorful jewels and a decorative howdah (a carriage-like seat) on its back. The howdah resembles a palace, symbolizing the grandeur and royal heritage of India.
TWA was founded in 1930 following the merger of Transcontinental and Western Air Express. In 1934, aviator and tycoon Howard Hughes invested in the airline. His investment led to the purchase of 18 international Boeings and 30 Convair 880s. However, the airline faced bankruptcy in 1960. TWA's service to India was limited to Bombay (now Mumbai) from January 8, 1947, until March 1975.
