S. Rehman

Sheikh Rehman is the last remaining film poster painter in the city. His studio operates in the traditional style of the old masters, tucked away behind the screen of Alfred Talkies, a nostalgic, vintage Hindi film cinema. This is Rehman’s domain, where he reigns like a painter prince of a bygone era. He has created posters for Bollywood films such as Mohabbat Zindagi Hai (1966), Aaye Din Bahar Ke (1966), Shagird (1967), and many other iconic movies.

More Info

Yahudi (1958) is a Hindi historical romantic drama directed by Bimal Roy, starring Dilip Kumar, Meena Kumari, and Sohrab Modi in key roles. Based on Agha Hashar Kashmiri's play Yahudi Ki Ladki, the film portrays the persecution of Jews in ancient Rome. The story follows Ezra (Sohrab Modi), a Jewish jeweler who, after the tragic loss of his son, adopts Lydia, the daughter of Roman governor Brutus (Nazir Hussain), renaming her Hannah (Meena Kumari). Unaware of her true origins, Hannah falls for Prince Marcus (Dilip Kumar), who masquerades as a Jew to win her love. Their forbidden romance sets off a chain of dramatic events, leading to shocking revelations, betrayal, and sacrifice.

The film’s soulful soundtrack, composed by Shankar Jaikishan with lyrics by Shailendra, features the iconic song "Yeh Mera Diwanapan Hai," which won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist. A major box-office success, Yahudi became the third-highest-grossing film of 1958, gaining recognition for its compelling narrative and exploration of themes like love, identity, and religious persecution.
